Pitt Hosts Guest Lecturer in Economics
PITTSBURGH- Pitt's Department of Economics will host a guest lecturer who is an expert on industrial organization.
Chad Syverson, assistant professor of economics at the University of Chicago, will deliver a free public lecture at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 25, titled "How Incumbents Respond to the Threat of Entry: Evidence From Major Airlines." It will take place in Room 4716, Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland.
Syverson's research ranges from industrial organization to macroeconomics, with a particular focus on the interplay between market competition and productivity. His research has been cited in a number of general-interest and business publications, including Forbes, The New Yorker, Business Week, and The New York Times, as well as in testimony before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee hearings on reforms in the mutual-fund industry.
The lecture is sponsored by Pitt's Center for Industry Studies, which supports research based on a deep understanding of firms and the markets in which they compete.
