Pitt's College of General Studies to Celebrate Nontraditional Student Week Nov. 7-12

PITTSBURGH--The University of Pittsburgh's College of General Studies (CGS) will hold a series of events titled CGS Works during National Nontraditional Student Week to celebrate the value, needs, and contributions of adult and nontraditional students from Nov. 7 through 12 in CGS's McCarl Center, 4th Floor, Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

CGS Works will include sessions on media and professional communications and student success, a guided tour of Hillman Library, and networking socials that reflect the efforts and achievements of CGS students and alumni. There also will be a daily Brown Bag Career Film series from noon to 1 p.m. highlighting such topics as administration of justice, law and security, education, print media, and art and humanities.

Homewood-Brushton Transfer Student Day

Noon- 4 p.m.

McCarl Center Conference Room

Prospective students from CCAC Homewood-Brushton Center will learn about

transfer-of-credit opportunities offered by CGS.

Nov. 9 Power Tips to Land the Job You Want

9-11 a.m.

McCarl Center Career Library

Tips on scoring a dream job will be presented by Nancy J. Alauzen, career

specialist and author of 66 Power Tips to Help You Land the Job You Want

(2004). Participating CGS students will be eligible to receive a complimentary

copy of Alauzen's booklet from the CGS Alumni Society.

Nov. 10 The CGS Stories Project

5-6 p.m.

McCarl Center Conference Room

Attendees will hear stories from CGS nontraditional students highlighting the

divergent paths that brought them to the University.
