University of Pittsburgh to Honor Long-Term Staff Today

PITTSURGH-Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg will recognize long-term staff members during a ceremony at 3 p.m. today in the Assembly Room of the William Pitt Union. A reception will follow in the union's Ballroom, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

To be honored at the University's 17th annual staff recognition ceremony are eight Pitt employees marking their 40th year of service, 28 employees with 30 years of service, and 81 employees with 20 years of service. Staff with more than 40 years of Pitt service who were honored at previous years' ceremonies also have been invited.

Approximately 150 Pitt staff members with 10 years of service and 475 employees with five years of service will receive recognition gifts from their supervisors.

The 40-year veterans being recognized at today's ceremony include:

o Sandy Bayus, a senior executive secretary in the Office of the Chancellor;

o Shirley Breitigam, a staff administrator in the Student Service Center;

o E. Maxine Bruhns, director of the Pitt Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs;

o Dwight Fong, a general book buyer for The Book Center;

o Philip Hopbell, manager of Central Receiving Services in the Department of Parking, Transportation, and Services;

o William J. McElligott, a plumber in the Office of Facilities Management;

o William P. Reihl, a research staff member in the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute; and

o Nancy Robinson, administrator of the Allegheny Observatory.
