PITTSBURGH-Taking a cue from popular "speed dating" exercises, in which participants have only a short amount of time to size up potential partners, University of Pittsburgh students have created an event called "Speed Networking: Meet Your Research Partner," to take place Thursday, April 6, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Room 527 of the William Pitt Union. Faculty and graduate students of all disciplines at Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University are invited to attend this event, which is being held in celebration of National Library Week, April 2-8.

Hosted by the Marketing and Public Relations class at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Information Sciences (SIS), "Speed Networking" is an opportunity for faculty and graduate students to discuss their research interests. Rotating around the room, each participant will have two minutes to share his or her research interests with each of the other participants in one-on-one sessions. No reservations are required.

The theme of this year's National Library Week, sponsored by the American Library Association, is "Change Your World @ Your Library." Graduate students in SIS' Department of Library and Information Science are hosting this event in order to emphasize the importance of the library within the research community and create an atmosphere in which diverse students and faculty can exchange ideas and expand their professional networks.

The School of Information Sciences has been educating information professionals for more than 100 years. SIS offers degree programs in Information Science, Library and Information Science, and Telecommunications. The SIS faculty, staff, students, and programs-uniquely interdisciplinary, multicultural, and international by design-are dedicated to building a global society and an informed citizenship based on the foundation of knowledge made possible only through access to reliable and useful information.
