Donald Goldstein Available to Discuss D-Day Anniversary

PITTSBURGH-On June 6, 1944, Allied forces invaded France along the Normandy Coast, winning a battle against German forces and cementing that date forever in American minds. Donald Goldstein, award-winning scholar and World War II expert, is available to comment on the anniversary of this historic event.

Goldstein is a professor in Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and has a joint appointment with Pitt's Asian Studies Center and European studies program within the University Center for International Studies.

Goldstein's book, At Dawn We Slept: The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor (McGraw-Hill, 1981), in its 25th printing in 2001, was the first runner-up for a Pulitzer Prize in 1982 and was on the New York Times best-seller list for 47 weeks. Miracle at Midway (Penguin Paperback, 1984), December 7, 1941: The Day the Japanese Bombed Pearl Harbor (McGraw-Hill, 1992), Nuts: The Story of the Battle of the Bulge (Brassey-McMillan, 1995), D-Day: The Story and Photographs (Brassey-McMillan, 1993), and The Pearl Harbor Papers (Brassey-McMillan, 1993) are among the many books and dozens of articles published by Goldstein on the subject of WWII.

Goldstein has been awarded two Peabody awards for his work on "Pearl Harbor: Two Hours That Changed the World" with David Brinkley (ABC), and "D-Day: A Soldier's Story" with Peter Jennings (ABC). He is currently at work on a documentary about Amelia Earhart with the Discovery Channel.
