Pittsburgh Urban League President Esther Bush to Present "State of Black Pittsburgh" as Part of Pitt's Center on Race and Social Problems Lecture Series

PITTSBURGH-Esther Bush, president and CEO of the Urban League of Pittsburgh, will deliver a lecture titled "The State of Black Pittsburgh" at Pitt's Center on Race and Social Problems (CRSP) from noon to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the School of Social Work Conference Center, 2017 Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave. The talk is free and open to the public; lunch will be provided, and registration is not required.

Bush has held her position at the Urban League of Pittsburgh since late 1994. A graduate of Westinghouse High School, she worked as a high school teacher, college administrator, and corporate consultant before joining the Urban League in New York City in 1980. There, she was assistant director of the Labor Education Advancement Program and later director of the Staten Island and Manhattan branches of New York's Urban League. She also was president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Hartford before returning to Pittsburgh.

Bush also serves on the Pennsylvania Commission for Crime, Delinquency and Community Relations Task Force, Governor's Commission on Academic Standards, and Voting Modernization Task Force.

The Urban League of Pittsburgh is 85 years old and is the largest social and educational service provider and advocacy agency devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream community in Pittsburgh. With the help of the United Way and local, state, and federal government, it operates more than 25 grant-funded programs a year, providing services to more than 33,000 people of all races.
