Pitt's Kuntu Repertory Theatre Featured in 17th Annual Pittsburgh New Works Festival
PITTSBURGH—Pitt's Kuntu Repertory Theatre will be part of the 17th season of the Pittsburgh New Works Festival—an annual presentation of new one-act plays by playwrights from across the country.
Kuntu will present a seated reading of A Civil Divorce, written by Pittsburgh playwright Joanna Lowe and directed by Jeannine Foster-McKelvia, at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Open Stage Theatre, 2835 Smallman St., Strip District. Admission is free.
A Civil Divorce is about Alice and Paul, a divorcing couple who meet to divide their possessions. As they sort through their belongings, they discover it is not always possible, or desirable, to remain civil when confronting human emotions. Alice is played by Sara Gaille; Paul is played by David Deitz. Both McKelvia and Lowe have won Donna Awards for acting.
The Pittsburgh New Works Festival, which will present staged readings on Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 and full productions during the four weekends in September, is dedicated to fostering the development of original plays.
