Pitt School of Law to Hold Diversity Program Oct. 11

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh School of Law will feature Arin N. Reeves, consultant and president of the Athens Group, at noon Oct. 11 in a program titled "Diversity, Inclusion, Challenges in the Legal Profession," in the Barco Law Building's Student Lounge, ground floor, 3900 Forbes Ave., Oakland.

Pitt School of Law's Diversity Committee is sponsoring the free, public program.

An expert on diversity issues in the legal profession, Reeves has worked in such areas as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, equity, discrimination, and harassment in organizations for more than 10 years. She has led several comprehensive studies on diversity and inclusion in the workplace, including her most recent study "Visible Invisibility: Women of Color in Law Firms," based on a project of the American Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Women in the Profession.

Reeves is a council member on the ABA Presidential Advisory Council on Diversity. She served as commissioner on the ABA Commission on Women, from 2003 to 2006, where she cochaired the Women of Color Research Initiative. She also was chair of the Chicago Bar Association's YLS (Young Lawyers Section) Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity and a member of its Special Commission on Diversity. An adjunct professor at Northwestern University, Reeves teaches classes on law and society.

Among the organizations Reeves has given presentations to are the ABA, Chicago Bar Association, California Bar Association, New York City and State Bar Associations, Massachusetts Bar Association, State Bar of Georgia, State Bar of Arizona, Minority Corporate Counsel Association, and American Corporate Counsel Association.

In her practice as a consultant on diversity issues in the legal profession, Reeves has worked with more than 100 law firms, almost 50 legal departments in Fortune 500 companies, dozens of law schools, and bar associations and organizations.

Reeves received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California and her PhD degree in sociology from Northwestern University.
