PITTSBURGH-"The Century Project" by photographer Frank Cordelle will be featured March 17-21 at the Kimbo Gallery in the University of Pittsburgh William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

The powerful and exquisitely disarming exhibition, free and open to the public, is a chronological series of 80 nude photographic portraits of women and girls from the moment of birth to nearly a hundred years of age. It is a diverse group of photographs comprising women of many ages, shapes, sizes, and life experiences. Most of the images are accompanied by moving statements written by the women themselves.

"I am especially proud to help bring Frank Cordelle and "The Century Project" to Pittsburgh," says Lisa Brush, associate professor of sociology and women's studies, who is working with community member Marilyn Asimow. "The photographs are stunning representations of women's bodies in health and recovery, across the life course. Also, the exhibition opens opportunities for re-seeing women and girls and how our lives and bodies are portrayed in the media, fine arts, and contemporary American culture."

Frank Cordelle, who resides in Laramie, Wyo., has been working on "The Century Project" for nearly 25 years and has been a commercial photographer for even longer. His clients include "Life," "Newsweek," many other magazines; ad agencies; and companies and organizations producing their own media. He built and has operated a studio in Bennington, N.H. and has traveled widely on assignment around the United States as well as to Mexico and Guatemala. He compiled "Bodies and Souls: The Century Project" (Heureka Productions, 2006), a book form of the exhibition.
