Pitt Dance Ensemble's Spring Performance, "Amalga-Motion," to Be Held April 3, 4, and 5

Contact:

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh Dance Ensemble will present "Amalga-Motion," its spring performance featuring student choreography in jazz, hip-hop, ballet, ballroom, and modern styles of dance, at 8:15 p.m. April 3, 4, and 5 in the Trees Hall Dance Studio, Allequippa and Darragh streets, Oakland.

Pitt student choreographers include Dyana Murrell, Mara Mandradjieff, Lauren Dobbin, Michele Sabol, Nathan Sendgikoski, Anne Pavlick, Lauren MacLaughlin, Kristin Haughney, and Kaitlin Weaver. Guest choreographers Scott Lowe of Dance Alloy Theatre and Pearlann Porter of The Pillow Project have created two new works for the student ensemble. Lowe's piece, titled "Recently Updated," depicts a point of view about Facebook, the media, and the Internet culture; it is a sextet set to a music montage and featuring video performances by the dancers. Porter's work, "This Jazz Is Beat," is a jazzy, upbeat experimentation of sound and music for eight students.

The Dance Ensemble, housed in the Department of Health and Physical Activity and supported by the Student Government Board, is a Pitt student dance group that performs theatrical dance and provides classes, workshops, and master classes for interested students. Many of the students choreograph, perform, and work behind the scenes to produce concerts during the year.

General seating tickets for "Amalga-Motion" are $6 for the public and $3 for students and may be purchased at the door. For more information, contact Susan Gillis-Kruman at 412-648-8262 or gillis@pitt.edu.
