The University of Pittsburgh to Present a Lecture by Audrey Murrell as Part of the Pittsburgh Executive Series on Intelligent Mentoring

Contact:

PITTSBURGH-The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business' Executive MBA Worldwide Program at the University of Pittsburgh will present the Pittsburgh Executive Series on Intelligent Mentoring, featuring a lecture by Pitt professor and author Audrey Murrell, at 6:15 p.m. Nov. 19, Fifth Floor, Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave., Oakland. Murrell, director of the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership in the Katz School and professor of business administration, psychology, and public and international affairs, is a coauthor of the book "Intelligent Mentoring: How IBM Creates Value Through People, Knowledge, and Relationships" (IBM Press, 2008), which looks at how IBM sustains effective mentoring. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Mentoring is one of the most powerful tools at the disposal of organizations, according to Murrell. But not all mentoring programs are equally effective and not all companies have learned how to sustain effective mentoring efforts. Murrell's presentation, "Intelligent Mentoring," evolves around the IBM program and offers specific guidance and best practices that can be used to enhance mentoring programs. Drawing on IBM's experience as well as having done extensive research in this area, Murrell will discuss how organizations can build a diverse portfolio of effective mentoring programs that can strengthen organizational intelligence, build sustainable knowledge communities, and promote collaboration across differences. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow the lecture.
