Studio Arts Students at Pitt to Create and Print Valentines in New Screenprint Studio
PITTSBURGH-Students in the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Studio Arts will embrace a favorite February holiday by creating valentines at an event called "Love Your Studio (Arts)," from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 13, Room B41, Frick Fine Arts Building, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland.
The event marks the official launch of the new Screenprint Studio (B41), with print demonstrations by printmaking students. The department's companion printmaking space, the updated Etching Studio (B40), also will be open, as will the newly reconfigured Digital Studio (B43), where students explore digital print and image making. A digital photo booth will be set up for students to demonstrate how electronic valentines are created and sent.
A feature length video, "The Steal Phantom," created by Pitt studio arts major Jason Georgiades, will be screened in the Design Studio (B42). In the Drawing Studio (B15), upper-level students will create a large-scale drawing that will remain on exhibition following the event. The title of this collaboration is "Fertile," in relation to the origin of Valentine's Day, which honored Faunus, the god of fertility.
Studio Arts chair Delanie Jenkins says the event will "celebrate our new and updated facilities and will highlight the enthusiasm and talents of our students across a range of art-making media."
Pitt's Department of Studio Arts is part of the School of Arts and Sciences.
