Winners Announced for the 8th Annual Pittsburgh Business Ethics Awards, Cohosted by Pitt and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals
PITTSBURGH-The annual Pittsburgh Business Ethics Awards (PBEA), cohosted by the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals (FSP), took place at noon Feb 13. The awards honor local companies that demonstrate commitment to ethical business practices.
Three separate awards were presented based on the size of the company. The recipient of the 2008 Small Company category award (with 1-250 employees) is Handee Marts, the recipient of the 2008 Medium Company category award (with 250-2,500 employees) is Marc USA, and the recipient of the 2008 Large Company category award (with 2,500+ employees) is FedEx. The 2008 winners are eligible to enter the American Business Ethics Award sponsored by the National Society of FSP.
Finalists for the PBEA are evaluated on a number of factors, including clear communication of ethical standards to employees, consistently high products and service, effective responses to crises or challenges, and a commitment to community and charitable involvement.
Pitt's Berg Center and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of FSP annually serve as hosts for the event. The keynote speaker was Paul H. O'Neill, former Secretary of the U.S. Treasury and former Alcoa Chair and CEO. O'Neill previously served as a member of the Pitt Board of Trustees and chair of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs' Board of Visitors.
