Pitt Nationality Rooms 2009 Summer Study Abroad Scholarships to Be Presented April 4
PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh Nationality Rooms Program will honor 39 students with the 2009 Nationality Rooms Program Summer Study Abroad Scholarships at 1 p.m. April 4 at an awards ceremony in Room 332 Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
Awardees will study in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Cameroon, Chile, Croatia, England, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Mongolia, Morocco, Nicaragua, People's Republic of China, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Scotland, Spain, Tanzania, and Ukraine.
Among the students to receive scholarships are Marissa Goldrich, a mathematics and linguistics major who will study the Arabic language and culture in Morocco; Wikar Kadhim, an occupational therapy student who will work to improve the treatment of disabled children in Jordan; Michelle Larzelere, a neuroscience major who will study Spanish for health care practitioners and participate in a clinical internship in Santiago, Chile; and Cory Rodgers, a biology and history and philosophy of science major who will research the interactions and conflicts between Western and traditional medicine in Ulan Bataar, Mongolia.
The purpose of the Nationality Rooms Program's awards is to enable students to complete credit-worthy study and experience extended immersion in another culture as a means of expanding their international horizons.
The 2009 scholarships bring the program's total awards received to 1,007 since the scholarship program's inception in 1948.
