Pitt Student to Appear on "Hollywood Squares"
February 8, 2002
PITTSBURGH—Beth Hommel, a University of Pittsburgh freshman from Vandergrift, Pa., will appear on the CBS-TV "Hollywood Squares" program's fourth annual college tournament at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, carried locally on KDKA-TV, Channel 2.
Hommel traveled to the CBS studios in Los Angeles on Jan. 25 and 26 to compete for the title of "Hollywood Squares" 2002 College Tournament Champion, with a chance to win a trophy and a $25,000 savings bond.
She was chosen to be a "Hollywood Squares" contestant by participating in an on-campus contestant tryout with other Pitt students last September. The tryout involved a 25-question true/false test, and those who did well went on to compete with one another in a mock game show.
Hommel, a transfer student from Oberlin College majoring in anthropology and theater, isn't the only Pitt student to have appeared on "Hollywood Squares." Last year, CAS sophomore Kyle Slaughter participated in the college tournament and won $2,400 and a trip to Disney World.
