Pitt to Offer Conference on Gender Issues, March 28-29

PITTSBURGH—"Transcending Boundaries: Uniting in the Face of Adversity"—a conference designed to promote discussion and debate about gender issues, including women's community-building in situations of conflict—will be held March 28-29 in Room 2K56 Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet Street, on the University of Pittsburgh campus. The conference will run from

2 to 5:30 p.m. March 28 and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 29.

The conference is the first collaborative effort by the Women's Forum of Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA), the Association of Women in Public Health, and the Organization of Women Graduate Students.

The conference will include speakers, academic papers, panel discussions, posters, and multimedia presentations. Among those scheduled to speak are Cynthia Enloe, professor of government and international relations at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., and Jeanne-Marie Col, an advisor on public administration since 1990 in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Panel topics include human trafficking; women's response to militarism; rights of refugee women; male roles in reproductive health; theoretical constructs of gender identity; women's leadership in the U.N.; mobilizing communities for women's social movements; women's response to violence; and women, human rights, and civil society.

Participants will include students, educators, and professionals from various disciplines. Registration is $20, and $10 for students.
