Fireworks and Laser Show Kick Off Pitt's Homecoming 2002 Events Oct. 25 to 27
October 16, 2002
PITTSBURGH—An evening fireworks and laser show and "Extravaganza" top off opening day at the University of Pittsburgh's Homecoming 2002 Oct. 25. Events continue through Oct. 27, including individual school reunions, open houses, concerts, pregame activities, and the Oct. 26 football contest between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Boston College Eagles.
The free Pitt Program Council fireworks and laser show, choreographed to music, will be held on Bigelow Boulevard at 9 p.m., featuring colorful explosions shot into the sky from Mazeroski Field while laser beams stream across the boulevard between the Cathedral of Learning and William Pitt Union (WPU).
Pitt's free annual Homecoming Extravaganza will follow in the WPU from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. The event includes tarot card readings, balloon art, handwriting analyses, airbrushed body art, free play on 35 arcade games, and food.
The next day, prior to the football game—scheduled to begin at noon—alumni and friends can participate in the Pitt Alumni Association's "Pregame Tent Party," beginning three hours before kickoff on Art Rooney Avenue, across from Heinz Field. In addition to 12 school, college, and alumni affinity group tables, the tent will provide people with the opportunity for photos in the School of Engineering Formula One SAE racecar, music by the band Airborne, and food and beverages for purchase.
Other weekend highlights include entertainment by the group Pure Gold, one hour after the game in Foster's Bar & Grill at the Holiday Inn University Center, Lytton Avenue, in Oakland. A free concert, "The Harmony of Sound and Light," featuring organist Robert Sutherland Lord, is scheduled at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 and at 3 p.m.
Oct. 27 in Heinz Memorial Chapel.
