Two Pitt Alumni Nominated to Serve Emeritus Positions On Board of Trustees

PITTSBURGH-—The Nominating Committee of the University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees recommended on Oct. 23 the election of two emeritus trustees.

The nominations of Herbert P. Douglas Jr., a trustee from 1999 to 2002, and Frank E. Mosier, a trustee from 1987 to 2002, will be acted upon when the full board meets at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 31 in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

Douglas is a retired vice president of Schieffelin & Co., now known as Schieffelin & Somerset. He is president emeritus of the International Amateur Athletic Association and founder of the organization's Global Peace Award and American-International Athlete Trophy.

Douglas, who held the Pitt record in the long jump for 23 years, won a bronze medal in that event during the 1948 Olympic Games. He is a varsity Letterman of Distinction and the recipient of the University of Pittsburgh Bicentennial Medallion of Distinction and the Trustees Medallion. From Pitt, Douglas earned the Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1948 and the Master of Education degree in 1950.

Mosier is the retired vice president of BP America. During his long tenure on the board, Mosier served on numerous trustee committees, including the executive, affirmative action, compensation, institutional advancement, nominating, and property and facilities committees. He was chair of the Special Committee on Technology Transfer. From 1987 to 1992, Mosier was vice chair of the board.

The recipient of the University of Pittsburgh Bicentennial Medallion of Distinction and the Trustees Medallion, Mosier also is a member of the School of Engineering Board of Visitors. He received the Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Pitt in 1953.
