"The Future of Africana Studies at Pitt" to be Held Nov. 15

PITTSBURGH— "The Future of Africana Studies at Pitt," an open forum to address changes in the Department of Africana Studies, will be held from 4 to
6 p.m. Nov. 15 at the University of Pittsburgh's Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, Schenley Drive, in Oakland.
The free event will provide students, faculty, administrators, and the public with the opportunity to discuss curriculum revisions in Pitt's Department of Africana Studies and to discover how those changes relate to the discipline of Africana Studies. The direction of the department also will be considered.
Forum speakers include N. John Cooper, dean in the Faculty and College of Arts and Sciences; Professor James Turner, Cornell University; Stanley Denton, director of Multicultural Education in the Pittsburgh School District; Oliver Byrd, senior vice president of Citizens Bank; Jake Wheatley, state representative elect (D-19th District); Kianga Mungai, a Pitt junior majoring in Africana Studies; and Khafre K. Abif, who graduated from Pitt with the Bachelor of Arts degree in Africana Studies in 1992 and the Master of Library Science degree in 1993.
