The Comedy of Errors Opens Winter-Spring Season for Pitt's Shakespeare-In-The-Schools
February 18, 2003
PITTSBURGH—Collaborating with teachers and delighting young people throughout Pennsylvania, Shakespeare-in-the-Schools (SITS) begins its 14th year at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Theatre Arts with a new production of The Comedy of Errors.
The program, a SITS-Gateway to the Arts Partnership, is a 50-minute reduced version of the Shakespearean classic made available to elementary (grades 4 through 6), middle, and high school students.
The show is touring until April 12 at schools throughout the region. (A list of performances at area schools is attached.)
Following the escapades of two sets of long-lost twin brothers accidentally thrown into the same town, The Comedy of Errors invites us to laugh at our preconceptions about personal identity and fate as it leads us through a merry maze of misunderstandings, mistaken identities, and last minute surprises.
Another SITS program, Temujin the Storyteller, features Temujin Ekunfeo relating classic world folk tales to schoolchildren, including an African take on a Shakespearean story.
