U.S. News & World Report "Best Graduate Schools"

PITTSBURGH—The book version of U.S. News & World Report's latest America's Best Graduate Schools rankings, on newsstands today, brings good news for some of the University's graduate programs. Most of the rankings also are slated to appear in the April 14 edition of U.S. News, also on sale today.

Pitt's School of Law, which had been unranked among U.S. News' second tier of American law schools, is now included in a newly constituted "Top 100 Schools" of law as the 51st in the nation. The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, which was not listed among the top 50 business schools last year, made the list this year as number 50.

In the Health Disciplines section of the book, Pitt is listed as sixth in the nation for Nursing-Anesthesia, a specialty not previously ranked by U.S. News; Pitt tied for the ranking with Duke University, Oakland University-Beaumont, and University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston. In the Specialties-Women's Health category, Pitt moved from last year's ranking of eighth to seventh this year. Pitt rose among schools of nursing from 12th in 2000, the year of the last ranking, to 10th this year, tied with Yale, UCLA, the University of Maryland-Baltimore, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. In two of the Nursing Specialties, Pitt went from not being listed among the top 10 to top 10 rankings: In Psychiatric/Mental Health, it tied for ninth place with Oregon Health Sciences University, Rutgers, and the University of Illinois-Chicago; and in Adult/Nurse Practitioner, it ranked 10th.
