Orientation 2003 to Begin Aug. 20 Pitt Freshmen Formally Welcomed Aug. 22 With Freshman Convocation in the Petersen Events Center

PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh freshmen will be introduced to campus life and the city during "Orientation 2003: Your Campus, Your City, and You" beginning Wednesday, Aug. 20, and ending Sunday, Aug. 24. Orientation activities and recreation include the formal Freshman Convocation; a trip to Heinz Field; shopping; a day spa; trolley rides; yoga, pilate, and Kwando lessons; a softball challenge; tips on how to be successful in college; a student activities fair; and an introduction to campus and community service opportunities.

Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, Provost James V. Maher, and faculty and staff in academic regalia will officially welcome students at 3 p.m. Friday during Freshman Convocation in the Petersen Events Center. The chancellor's picnic for students and families immediately follows the ceremony. Students will then board the 5:15 p.m. shuttle to the Panther's FanFest at Heinz Field.

Orientation 2003 ends at 7:30 p.m. Sunday with the traditional Lantern Night Ceremony in Heinz Memorial Chapel.
