Pitt to Celebrate International Week 2003 Sept. 27 through Oct. 4

Activities conclude with 24th annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh and its University Center for International Studies will celebrate the diversity of Oakland and the Pittsburgh community during International Week 2003, Sept. 27-Oct. 4.

The week's highlights include:

Sept. 27 Sidewalk chalk mural competition

11 a.m. Between Posvar Hall and Hillman Library;

Sept. 29 Salsa dance lessons

8:45-9:45 p.m. William Pitt Union (WPU) Assembly Room;

Sept. 30 Oakland Restaurant Tour, $10

6-9 p.m. Sample international cuisine at six different restaurants;

Oct. 1 Performance by Steel Impressions, six-piece steel pan band

noon-1 p.m. Litchfield Towers Lobby;

Oct. 3 6th Annual International Week Soccer Tournament

3 p.m. Cathedral of Learning lawn; and

Oct. 4 24th Annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival

2 p.m.-midnight WPU

Enjoy art, crafts, food, and performances from Caribbean and Latin American countries, as well as a special art exhibit and demonstration by Nicaraguan artist Alejandro Cabrera.

There are many other events, including lectures and discussions, films, Scottish games, an American Indian Pow-Wow (off-campus), an international beer tasting, student photography exhibitions, as well as additional music, dinners, and dancing.
