Pitt to Host "The Godfather of Gore" Tom Savini Dec. 8
PITTSBURGH—Tom Savini, famous for his special effects in such horror films as Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Friday the 13th Part 4 (1984), will give a talk and demonstration at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 in the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Hall Auditorium, 4227 Fifth Ave., in Oakland.
Savini is a master of special effects makeup as well as an accomplished stunt coordinator, writer, artist, and actor who has appeared in films such as From Dusk Till Dawn (1996).
Savini also has worked with cult directors George A. Romero, Dario Argento, William Lustig, Sean S. Cunningham, Tobe Hooper, Brian Yuzna, and Roger Avary. Night of the Living Dead (1990), written by Romero, was Savini's feature film debut as a director. In the documentary The American Nightmare (2000), Savini reveals that his grueling experiences in Vietnam inspired his special effects work.
