University of Pittsburgh to Showcase Computer Modeling and Simulation at "Predicting the Future" Dec. 9
PITTSBURGH—The Steelers will not win the Super Bowl this season.
That's a pretty safe prediction, but not the type you're likely to encounter at "Predicting the Future," a showcase of computer modeling and simulation projects from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 on the fifth floor of the University of Pittsburgh's Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave., in Oakland.
Sponsored by Pitt's Office of the Provost and the Technology Commercialization Alliance, the event will feature research by Pitt scientists and engineers working in protein folding, polymer interactions, electron transfer, nanostorage of hydrogen particles, fluid mechanics for turbines, and simulations of attacks by computer hackers. Displays outside the natural sciences will include economic behavior predictions, virtual building structures for first responders, and legal trademark protection models.
In addition, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center will display a room-wide, colorful, 3-D demonstration of physiological processes.
