Nearly 400 Student Volunteers Will Hit the Streets April 17 For Pitt Project Oakland's Community Cleanup
PITTSBURGH—Pitt Project Oakland, a University of Pittsburgh volunteer service, will send nearly 400 students into the Oakland streets for a community cleanup from 10 a.m. until noon April 17. Volunteers will meet at 9:30 a.m. on the Posvar Hall Plaza, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland.
Armed with bags for trash and recyclables, students will be organized into teams and provided with street assignments, ready to clear the streets of litter. Following the cleanup, students can celebrate at a festival, which includes lunch, music, speakers, and information tables.
This is the second Pitt Project Oakland event for the 2003-2004 academic year. Normally an annual event, Pitt Project Oakland is being held a second time this year because of increasing environmental concerns.
Project organizers are the Pitt Student Government Board, Free the Planet, Student Volunteer Outreach, and the Oakland Planning and Development Corporation.
