Pitt's Kuntu Repertory Theater Presents Local "Seniors in Action"
PITTSBURGH—More than 40 senior citizens will recite poetry and perform musical numbers as part of Pitt's Kuntu Repertory Theater's (KRT) "Seniors in Action" program at 4 p.m. May 3 at the Allentown Senior Citizen Center, 631 East Warrington Ave., Allentown. The event is free and open to the public.
Some of the seniors—who belong to the Eldorado, McKinley , Southside Market House and Allentown Senior Centers—will perform original pieces they have created especially for this event. Other seniors will recite poetry by Maya Angelou, perform the dramatic work Simply Heavenly by Langston Hughes, or sing the Christian hymn "How Great Thou Art."
Many of these performers have worked with KRT facilitators over the years in workshops that provide an open dialogue, discussion, and the opportunity for the seniors to creatively express themselves and share memories. They have been guided by KRT Founder and Creative Director Vernell Lillie, as well as KRT staff members Ernest McCarty, Milton J. Henderson, and Eileen Morris. For more information, call KRT at 412-624-7298 or the Allentown Senior Center at 412-481-5220.
