Pitt Book Center to Host Book Signing Featuring Pittsburgh Then and Now Author Walter C. Kidney
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh Book Center will hold a book signing featuring Pittsburgh Then and Now (Thunder Bay Press, 2004) author Walter C. Kidney at noon June 17 in the Book Center, 4000 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
Kidney, architectural historian for the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation, has authored a number of books on Pittsburgh's great architecture and bridges.
Pittsburgh Then and Now includes archival photographs shown alongside specially commissioned contemporary images of the same scene. As stated in a description of the book, "the evolution of Pittsburgh over the last century has produced a compact urban landscape of older buildings blended with more recent architectural development. Downtown, the office blocks are still punctuated by traces of Pittsburgh's industrial heritage—the so-called 'sliver' warehouses—mingling with the conveniences of modern city life. More than 100 photographs are featured in this amazing view of a fascinating city."
Sponsored by The Book Center and Thunder Bay Press, the event is free and open to the public.
