Pitt Orientation to Begin Aug. 25, Formal Freshmen Welcome at the Freshman Convocation to be Held Aug. 26

PITTSBURGH—"Orientation 2004: Your Campus, Your City, and You" will be held at the University of Pittsburgh Wednesday, Aug. 25, through Sunday, Aug. 29, highlighted by the formal Freshman Convocation and Lantern Night Ceremony, and including such activities as a trip to a Pirates game; Molly's Trolley and Just Ducky tour rides; a visit to Heinz Field; tips on how to be successful in college; get acquainted social events; a student activities fair; and an introduction to campus and community service opportunities.

During the Freshman Convocation at 3 p.m. Aug. 26 in the Petersen Events Center, Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, Provost James V. Maher, and faculty and staff in academic regalia will officially welcome freshmen to Pitt and college life.

Patricia D. Kroboth, dean of the School of Pharmacy, will give the Convocation Address. The Chancellor's picnic immediately follows the ceremony, giving students and their families an opportunity to mingle with University faculty, students, and staff.

Orientation 2004 culminates at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 with the traditional Lantern Night Ceremony in Heinz Memorial Chapel.
