University of Pittsburgh Book Center to Host Author Meet and Greet

PITTSBURGH—Charles Kinder, associate professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh, will take part in a Meet and Speak session and will sign copies of his new book, Last Mountain Dancer: Hard-Earned Lessons in Love, Loss, and Honky-Tonk Outlaw Life (Carroll & Graff, 2004), at noon Oct. 14 at the University Book Center, 4000 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

A Pitt professor for 15 years, Kinder recently returned to his native West Virginia to write this book, which "retells yarns of bloody mine wars, outlaws on the run, [and] roadhouse romances." The "story catcher and storyteller" of his new book, Kinder also relays the tale of "a man who calls himself the last mountain dancer."

Author of three other books, Kinder is the codirector of the Writing Program at Pitt and is a member of its Graduate Admissions Committee. His books include Snakehunter (Knopf, 1973), The Silver Ghost (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1979), and Honeymooners: A Cautionary Tale (Farrar Straus Giroux, 2001), which made The New York Times notable books for 2001.
