PITT ALUMNA AND AUTHOR TO SPEAK DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 22 -- Bebe Moore Campbell, a University of Pittsburgh graduate and award-winning author, will present a lecture to celebrate Black History Month on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 8 p.m. in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room, Oakland.
During the presentation, which is sponsored by Pitt's Black Action Society and free and open to the public, Campbell will preview her new book, "Singing in the Comeback Choir."
A former elementary and middle school teacher, Campbell is author of three other books: "Sweet Summer: Growing Up With and Without My Dad," a memoir about her childhood and early adult life; "Your Blues Ain't Like Mine," her first novel, called compelling and disturbing by the San Francisco Chronicle; and "Brothers and Sisters," a novel that chronicles the friendship of two women.
In addition to her books, Campbell's nonfiction work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Essence, Black Enterprise, Ebony, Working Mother, and Ad Week. She also is a regular contributor to National Public Radio. Campbell received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work for her fiction writing.
A Philadelphia native who now lives in Los Angeles, Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Pitt in elementary education.
