ANNE LeBARON TO PERFORM ON ELECTRIC HARP AT PITT

Contact:

PITTSBURGH, March 11 -- University of Pittsburgh Professor of Music Anne LeBaron, a composer and harpist, will perform on the new Lyon & Healy Electric Harp on Tuesday, March 24 at 8 p.m. at the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, Schenley Drive, Oakland. Tickets for this concert, part of Pitt's Music on the Edge series, are $8 general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens, and free admission for Pitt students with an I.D.

Widely recognized for her extended techniques that include harp preparations, as well as electronic enhancements that transform the instrument, LeBaron has performed as an improvising harpist since the mid-70's throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Noted improvisors, including Derek Bailey, Anthony Braxton, and Muhal Richard Abrams, have invited her to collaborate in performances and recordings. Hailed as a highlight on one of the Festival International Music Actualle events in Canada, Wire Magazine writes "Anne LeBaron worked from the center of three harps, a loomstress interweaving orient, occident and accident with emphasis on the tense relations between thematic and textural material."

LeBaron will be joined on stage by Davey Williams, legendary improvising guitarist from Birmingham, Alabama, as well as tubist Tom Heasley and other members of LeBaron's Phantom Orchestra.
