AWARD-WINNING WRITER TO SPEAK AT PITT
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 17 -- Afaa Michael Weaver, award-winning poet, fiction writer and playwright, will speak at the University of Pittsburgh on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19 in Room 3T51 of the Forbes Quadrangle Building, 230 S. Bouquet Street.
On Friday, Weaver will present a lecture and poetry reading from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday he will conduct a poetry and playwriting workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Weaver has published five books of poetry, with three more forthcoming. He has two plays produced in fully professional productions. A winner of numerous literary awards, Weaver is editor of Obsidian II, a review devoted to Black Literature.
Weaver's visit is sponsored by the Kuntu Writers Workshop, a part of the Department of Africana Studies at the university. The program is funded by the Multi-Cultural Arts Initiative, the Pittsburgh Foundation and the Howard Heinz Endowment.
