UNITED NATIONS OFFICIAL TO SPEAK AT PITT

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 17 -- Ambassador Kensaku Hogen, United Nations under-secretary general for communications and public information, will discuss "The Role of NGOs (non-government organizations) and Multilateral Organizations in the Next Millennium," Monday, Nov. 23, at the University of Pittsburgh.

Prior to assuming his current position in March, 1998, Hogen was the director-general of the Foreign Service Training Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan. He also has worked on a wide range of issues before the United Nations as well as in public information areas. He directed the Foreign Press Division of the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo, as well as the Press and Information Section of the Embassy of Japan in Washington, DC.

Hogen's presentation starts at approximately 5:30 p.m. and concludes around 6:30 p.m. in Room 2K56, Forbes Quadrangle Building, 230 S. Bouquet Street. It will be preceded by a reception at 5 p.m.
