PITT BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENTS BEGIN
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 2 -- The University of Pittsburgh Black Action Society, and various other student groups, will host live theater, speakers, a report by the U.S. Surgeon General, forums, and panel discussions to commemorate Black History Month.
The celebration kicks off with the "Tuskegee Experiment Discussion" on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 5:30 p.m. in William Pitt Union (WPU) Room 542 and continues with other presentations throughout the month.
Events include a lecture by the Brown sisters of the historic Brown vs. Board of Education case; Carroll R. Gibbs, writer, lecturer, and exhibitor, who will discuss African contributions to world history, culture, and technology; and a video conference with U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, "Progress Report on Stroke and Heart Disease."
Two plays will also be performed: The Kuntu Repertory Theatre will present "Lifting," on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 8 p.m. in Stephen Foster Memorial, and Pin Point Theatre will perform "The Meeting," on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. in the WPU Assembly Room.
