BOB DOLE TO SPEAK AT PITT AMBASSADORS DINNER
PITTSBURGH, April 1 -- Former Senate Majority Leader Robert J. Dole will be the featured speaker at the University of Pittsburgh's 1999 Pitt Ambassadors Scholarship Dinner. The scholarship dinner will take place Monday, May 17, at 6 p.m. in the Pittsburgh Hilton and Towers. The event chairman is David Marconi, owner of DMS, Inc.
Dole, who was the 1996 Republican presidential nominee, has also served as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, a member of the House of Representatives, and as chairman of the Republican Party. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The Pitt Ambassadors Program represents a shared commitment by the university and area businesses to educating this region's young people. The program awards two four-year scholarships annually to outstanding area high school students.
The speaker at last year's dinner was former British Prime Minister John Major. Other previous speakers have included General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, President George Bush, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney.
