PITT NATIONALITY ROOMS WILL HOST CABARET BALL

Contact:

PITTSBURGH, April 1 -- The Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh will sponsor the 34th International Cabaret Ball Saturday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room, Oakland.

This year's theme, "Far East and Eastern Europe Join Hands in Celebrating 60 Years" commemorates creation of the Chinese, Czechoslovak, Hungarian and Yugoslav rooms, all opened in 1939.

The cabaret will feature dancing with George Batiy and the Continental Ensemble playing ballroom and ethnic music.

The nationality council, which sponsors the event annually, is the governing body of the Nationality Room committees that raise funds to provide summer scholarships for Pitt students to study abroad. Nationality scholarships in 1998 enabled 24 students to travel to Latin America, Western and Eastern Europe, Africa, China, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Tickets for the ball, which include a reception, buffet dinner and dancing, are $25 per person, $15 for students. Call 412-624-6150 by April 16 to order tickets.
