UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH ENGINEERING PROGRAM BRINGS SCHOOL TO STUDENTS
PITTSBURGH, May 4 -- The University of Pittsburgh's Division of Continuing Engineering Education is making it easy for professionals to pursue a master's degree in engineering.
Instead of having professionals and students come to the University, it is taking the University to the professionals. Known as "off campus" programs, courses are conducted at host facilities, either on-site at a sponsoring company or at the offices of a professional association.
The innovative program is the only one of its kind in Western Pennsylvania. So far, Allegheny Ludlum, Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse are providing their employees, as well as other professionals in the area, the opportunity to get their master's degree, often without ever leaving the office or commuting far from work or home. Companies such as these recognize the benefits and advantages of advanced technical training for their employees. The University of Pittsburgh makes providing that education easy for employees and employers alike.
"We're providing the same courses and graduate degrees as on campus, but without the traffic or parking," said Annette Brining, director, program administration. "We hope to encourage ongoing participation in the program from other corporations in our area as well."
