KUNTU REPERTORY THEATRE OFFERS FREE ONE-DAY ACTING CLASS
PITTSBURGH, May 28 -- The University of Pittsburgh's Kuntu Repertory Theatre is offering to the general public a free master class in acting by guest director Allie Woods from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 5 in the Social Room of the Stephen Foster Memorial Auditorium on the Pitt campus.
The acting class will consist of theater exercises using a method Woods developed while working with the Negro Ensemble Company of New York City, the acting process by which a role is motivated, and a session on the business of acting.
Woods, a native of Houston who now lives in New York City, is a veteran director, actor, writer and producer who has worked on more than 100 productions in the United States and abroad. His New York credits include an off-Broadway production of Ed Bullins' The Gentleman Caller as part of A Black Quartet, John Oliver Killens' Cotillion and Laurence Holder's When the Chickens Came Home to Roost. Woods has been a member of the Circle Repertory Theatre Lab, the playwrights/directors unit of both the Negro Ensemble Company and the Actors Studio, and was a director-in-residence for two seasons with LaMama Experimental Theatre Club.
Woods comes to Kuntu Repertory Theatre as part of the Woodie King Jr. Professional Director and Producer Series. He is directing Sing Black Hammer, written by William Mayfield. It will be presented in the Stephen Foster Memorial Auditorium June 17 through July 3.
