JAPANESE CINEMA EXPERT TO SPEAK AT PITT
PITTSBURGH, September 3 -- Donald Richie, the foremost Western authority on Japanese cinema, will discuss "Japan - A Half Century of Change," beginning at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14, in Room 324 of the Cathedral of Learning on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
Richie, an art critic for The International Herald-Tribune and The Japan Times, has won numerous distinguished awards including the San Francisco Novikoff Award, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Cultural Award, the John D. Rockefeller III Award, and the Japan Foundation Award.
Sponsored by Pitt's Asian Studies Program as part of the 20th Century Japan Lecture Series, Richie's presentation will help commemorate the completion of the Japanese Nationality Room, 317 Cathedral of Learning. Activities include a tour of the Japanese Nationality Room at 3 p.m. and a reception following the lecture.
The 20th Century Japan Lecture Series is free and open to the public. It is supported in part by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation/Mitsubishi Endowments Funds of the University of Pittsburgh.
