PITT ECONOMICS PROFESSOR TO SERVE ON NATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 9 -- Reuben Slesinger, professor emeritus of economics at the University of Pittsburgh, has been named to the Executive Board of Scientific and Technical Advisors of the American Board of Forensic Examiners, within the American College of Forensic Examiners (ACFE).

In his new appointment, Slesinger will help develop policy and qualifications for economists seeking the designation of diplomate in the ACFE, an organization which provides basic and advanced training in a specialized field and continuing education through lectures, workshops, and distance courses. Candidates must also pass an intensive examination to reach the status of diplomate. Slesinger has proposed an external credit course in forensic economics, which is currently not offered. He will also write articles for The Forensic Examiner, the official journal of the ACFE.

Slesinger, who has a 50-year teaching career in economics at Pitt, has authored eight books and has served as a consultant to the Federal Power Commission, the Department of Justice, and to corporations and law firms in the fields of wrongful death, disabilities and employee termination. A specialist in economic policy, he issues an annual economic forecast every January, which includes predictions on inflation, consumer spending, interest rates and unemployment.

Slesinger received his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees from Pitt and also completed graduate work at Harvard and the University of Wisconsin.
