PITT TO HOST NATO BRIEFING
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 9 -- Two senior military officers from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will present a public briefing from 8 to 9:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15, in the Kurtzman Room of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Avenue, on the University of Pittsburgh campus.
The officers scheduled for the presentation are Pittsburgh-native Commander Michael C. Lucarelli, United States Navy, Politico-Military Affairs Branch, Allied Command Atlantic, and Lieutenant Colonel Peter W. Reynolds, British Army, Chief of the Public Service Section, Public Information Office, Allied Command Europe.
The briefing will address NATO's role in the Balkans, NATO's future in the Post-Cold War world, NATO's relationship with Russia, NATO's new strategy for managing peace and dealing with crises, NATO's Partnership for Peace program, and NATO and other security and non-governmental organizations.
A question and answer session will follow.
The NATO Briefing Team was organized in the early 1980s in response to the many requests for information from the public. Each year the briefing team, consisting of officers from the allied countries, visit 20 metropolitan areas to discuss NATO issues.
