KUNTU REPERTORY THEATRE OFFERS FREE ACTING CLASS WITH NEW YORK ACTRESS ELIZABETH VAN DYKE, FEB. 5
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 27 -- The University of Pittsburgh's Kuntu Repertory Theatre is sponsoring a free acting class conducted by writer, director and actress Elizabeth Van Dyke, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, in the Stephen Foster Memorial Auditorium on Pitt's Oakland campus. The class is open to the public.
Based in New York, Van Dyke is in town to direct and star in Kuntu's production of "Love to All, Lorraine," a one-woman play she wrote about the life of playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Van Dyke returns to Pittsburgh and Kuntu Repertory Theatre after 16 years. In 1984, she directed Kuntu's production of Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun," starring Esther Rolle.
Van Dyke made her Broadway debut as Laura in "Checkmates," and received an Audelco Award for her work in "Zora Neale Hurston." Other Broadway and regional roles were Elisabetta in "The Queen and Rebels," Julia in "Wedding Band," Bonni in "Hurly Burly," the title role in "Antigone," Molly is Joe Turner's "Come and Gone," and Oswalda in Lee Breur's gender-reversed "Productions of Lear."
Van Dyke's "Love to All, Lorraine" was produced for Group W Cable and won an Ace Award at the Houston Film Festival. She has been in many commercials, and guest starred as Noreen Carter on the television series, "L.A. Law."
