PITT'S INDIAN NATIONALITY ROOM COMMITTEE TO HOST INDIAN FESTIVAL
PITTSBURGH, Aug. 4 -- The University of Pittsburgh Indian Nationality Room committee, Hindu Student Council, and local Indian organizations, will celebrate India's independence with an Indian Festival on Sunday, Aug. 20, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Cathedral of Learning (CL) Commons Room.
This year's program will be dedicated to two national heroes, Sardar Patel and Subhash Chander Bose. Students from Pittsburgh's top Indian dance schools will perform an array of dances. There also will be traditional music, speeches, and skits, as well as an Indian Bazaar and foods.
The Indian Nationality Room Committee dedicated its room on Jan. 9, the first nationality room to be dedicated in the new millennium. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to visit the room, at 327 CL, whose design is based on the fifth through ninth century monastic University at Nalanda.
The event is open to the public and admission is free. For more information, call 412-828-2911.
