PITT TO ORIENT FRESHMEN IN THE TRANSITION TO CAMPUS LIFE

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 16 -- Ultimate Frisbee, a Coffeehouse with Karaoke, movies, shopping, a Jazz cafe, transition sessions, and tips about enhancing your college education, are just some of what's planned for University of Pittsburgh incoming freshmen during Pitt's orientation beginning Tuesday, Aug. 22 and ending Saturday,

Aug. 26.

Chancellor Mark Nordenberg, Provost James Maher, and faculty and staff in academic regalia will officially welcome students during the Freshman Convocation Saturday, Aug. 26, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the Cathedral of Learning lawn. The Chancellor's Picnic, for students and their families, immediately follows, also on the Cathedral lawn.

Orientation will culminate Sunday, Aug. 27, with Lantern Night and the Night of the Panther. The 8 p.m. Lantern Night ceremony in Heinz Chapel and the 8:15 p.m. Night of the Panther ceremony in the Commons Room, will be followed by a joint reception in the Commons Room.
