PITT ENGINEERING APPOINTS ASSISTANT DEAN FOR DIVERSITY
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 19 -- The University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering has appointed Sylvanus N. Nwosu as its assistant dean for diversity and associate professor of mechanical engineering.
"In addition to being an outstanding educator and a distinguished research engineer, Dr. Nwosu has compiled an impressive record in organizing and directing programs to increase minority participation," said Gerald Holder, dean of the School of Engineering. "I am delighted that he will be helping us maintain, and improve upon, our commitment to diversity in the engineering fields."
Nwosu, of Richland Township, formerly served as the chairman of the physics/engineering department at Dillard University. He also has served as director of the Materials and Engineering Research Program and the Leadership Enhancement in the Sciences Program and was responsible for the Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation Program and the Summer Bridge Program at Dillard.
