PITT TO AUCTION NATIONALITY ROOM ARTIFACTS
PITTSBURGH, April 11 -- The University of Pittsburgh's Nationality Rooms Program will hold an auction of ethnic artifacts on Sunday, April 29, starting at 1 p.m., in the Cathedral of Learning's Commons Room.
The auction will begin with a preview of more than 150 ethnic artifacts and bidding will begin at 2:30 p.m. Included in these objects are dolls from the 1940s, African tools, Israel wine storage jars from the 1st century B.C., and old Russian brass samovars - all of which were accumulated over the decades but not used in the rooms.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the program's study abroad scholarships, which are awarded annually, ranging in value from $2,000 to $4,000, to enable Pitt students to experience another country through five weeks of cultural immersion and study.
