EXHIBITIONS 

9/1-25     The Lives They Left Behind—a photographic exhibition featuring the contents of suitcases left behind in the late 19th to mid-20th century by the patients of the now closed Willard Psychiatric Center in New York’s Finger Lakes region—is being presented in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland. LECTURES 

9/22          Danny Yung, a Hong Kong-based intercultural theater specialist, and Kunqu opera star Xiao Xiangping will deliver a free public lecture (registration requied) on Chinese opera and intercultural theater titled “Journey to the West: Tears of Barren Hill” from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Graduate School of Public Health Auditorium, Parran Hall, 130 DeSoto St., Oakland. 9/29          Elizabeth Otto, assistant professor of art history at the State University of New York at Buffalo, will deliver a lecture titled “Bauhaus Ghost Stories: Spirit and Photography Versus Abstraction and Modern Design,” at 5 p.m., 602 Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
