Expert on Stepfamilies to Meet With Members of Blended Families, Social Workers at University of Pittsburgh Feb. 24, 25

PITTSBURGH—According to the experts, it takes time and patience to make the dynamics of a blended family work successfully.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work is hosting renowned marriage and family therapist Elizabeth Einstein for an event Feb. 24 designed specifically for stepfamilies; a second session Feb. 25 targets social workers who deal with these families as clients. 
 
Einstein is one of the United States’ leading educators on stepfamilies.

A marriage and family therapist, author, trainer, lecturer, and consultant based in Ithaca, N.Y., Einstein helped form the Stepfamily Association of America three decades ago. She served for many years on the association’s board of directors and was the founding editor of its national newsletter. Einstein is the author of The Stepfamily: Living, Loving & Learning (Ballantine Books, 1985) and Strengthening Your Stepfamily (Impact Publishers, 2005), as well as other award-winning educational materials and videos. She has given presentations at conferences worldwide.

The Stepfamily Journey: Not for Wimps

Fee: $10

Einstein explores the challenges and rewards of stepfamily living and offers advice for couples who must deal with children and disciplinary issues in a remarriage. Couples are encouraged to attend together.
 

Strengthening Stepfamilies: A Developmental Approach
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25

2017 Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland
Fee: $115 (Six hours of continuing education credits available.)

Einstein presents a workshop offering the types of information and skills that professionals can use to deal more effectively with the complexities of stepfamilies, covering, among other things, the developmental stages of remarriage, the challenges of teen stepchildren, and counseling methodology that strengthens relationships.
