PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh will host a lecture featuring actress Brittany Snow, who will talk about her struggle with emotional health and the creation of the “Love Is Louder” campaign, at 8:30 p.m. March 21 in the Assembly Room of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

Snow partnered with Courtney Knowles, executive director of the Jed Foundation, to create the “Love Is Louder” campaign in response to the rash of suicides by college students in September 2010. The Jed Foundation is a leading national organization working to reduce emotional distress and prevent suicide among college students.

Both Snow and Knowles will speak during the event. Snow explained “Love Is Louder” in an interview with CNN by saying it is “a movement of people who believe love is louder than hate, love is louder than pain, love is louder than shame. It’s a movement of people partnered with other charities that are raising the volume on bullying, suicide prevention, depression, and really putting a positive mention out there that we need to treat each other with respect and love.”

The event, a joint project between Pitt’s Division of Student Affairs, Chapter of Active Minds, and Program Council, is free to Pitt undergraduates with a valid student ID. General admission is $10, but will only be available the evening of the event after Pitt undergraduates have been admitted. Tickets will be available at the William Pitt Union Ticket Office.
